PLC MEETING

-Spread out PLC among members to allow sense of belonging that we are allowed an opportunity to impart our knowledge to them. Members also won’t feel neglected

-Meetings must be pre planned, cannot have last minute planning. This is to show members that we are prepared as the scout motto instructs us to be. Otherwise they will find excuses to be slipshod with their planning.

*This year, one of the aims is to put more emphasis on members due to the lack of attention on the members because of NPC and DPC.

-Whenever you teach the members anything do not jump to the advance, don’t have the mentality that they know everything, always start from the basics and you won’t go wrong

-This year is the beginning of a new era of Wichita scout troop. We will concentrate on upping the standard of the troop. We are adamant on not settling on mediocrity but achieving our full potential. This is the mentality that the PLC and leaders hope to impart to the next PLC.

-As the current PLC are steeping down not at the March camp, but at June camp instead, this will give the PLC more time to pass down as much knowledge to the next PLC before they step up to the plate and take over

Following three points are the themes that this year will revolve around

Standardization- Different we may be, we still need to standardize some things to let members feel a sense of equality to a certain extent and belonging. In alignment to our troop motto of one for all, all for one, we have implemented something that was a practice in the past but got lost somewhere along the way. This practice is the equipping of a Wichita Personal Kit which every member regardless of rank has to bring for every formal meeting. We hope that we can continue this standardization mentality in different aspects of our CCA.

Sense of Urgency- We have observed that this has been a problem that has bugged our troop for quite some time. Most of the time, we only show our sense of urgency during camps, but what we are really gunning for is that urgency be present in every meeting.
Not only members, honestly everybody is guilty of that. So, we need to inculcate that mentality into us that urgency is one of the main priorities. Hence, allowing us to complete stuff within the time frame allocated.

Willingness to learn- Last but not least we would like to instill a love for the CCA into everyone. We want them not to come for CCA just to be in the motion. Our aim is to make them love coming to the CCA and not let it be a chore but a passion. We want to at least learn something every meeting they attend so they won’t go home empty handed or empty ‘minded’ so to speak.

Kevin Tan (Scribe)

Annual General Meeting 2009

Dear One & All

Notice is hereby given for the Troop's Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2009. The details are as follows:

Ngee Ann Wichita Scout Troop AGM'09

Saturday, 10th January 2009
1030h - 1400h
Venue: Old Library (subject to change)

Please be informed that a normal Troop meeting will precede the AGM. Please get ready for Flag Break Ceremony by 0800h sharp. The Leaders will be making an appearance, so please brush up on discipline, bearing and turnout of uniform.

After the AGM, there will be a Lunch Reception to celebrate the past year of Scouting in Ngee Ann. VIPs will be invited. The Lunch will last until 1400h.

BTW, the AGM is NOT a tekan session. Leaders do not seat around you in a horseshoe formation in an isolate classroom during an AGM.

In Other News...

Thanks to everyone for their hard work and effort this week for the CCA Display. It's the time of the year where you can showcase your work and fun to others. I'm happy to say that of all the CCA booths, ours has been the most comprehensively entertaining, interactive and ambitious. In one word: FUN! Congrats to all!

Please rest up and settle back to reality that school has indeed started.

For our graduates, all the best for your O Level results!

Friday, January 2, 2009

Dear Wichita scouts.

With effect from 7 January, Wednesday onwards.
These will be a new set of things that all scouts are required to bring
for EVERY SINGLE UNIT MEETING.
-Test card
-Personalised scout logbook (No Jotterbook/exercise book)
Exercise book size with hard cover.
-Poncho
-Swiss Army Knife
-Stationeries
Items must be placed in a ziploc bag for convinience.
Items will be checked randomly during meetings
and anybody that fail to bring them will result in consequences.

You may ask why is there a need for such items.
Well, firstly, the first 2 items are already a neccesity in ALL scout meetings.
For the scout logbook, please try to personalise your book
and it is compulsory to find a hard cover book.
Believe me this book will be very useful in the future and
it will reflect very much about yourself. so be proud of it (:

Swiss army knife and poncho are compulsary even though they
will not be frequently used in scout meetings.
This is because it is to develop a sense of responsibility in yourself.
And that you will be responsible for your own things at all times.

These items, i repeat, must be brought for all scout meetings.
Its a practise that started long ago, but stopped halfway.
And now we're bringing it back to the Wichita Scout Troop.
Hopefully this will teach all of our men to become responsible and
have a sense of standardization throughout the unit. :)
Please spread the message around too thanks.

YIS,
-Jingyang.

N.Y. Boy Scout earns all 121 merit badges

From: http://www.usatoday.com/news/offbeat/2008-12-29-merit-badges_N.htm

NEW YORK (AP) — A Long Island teenager has earned all 121 merit badges offered by the Boy Scouts of America. It's an accomplishment the local arm of the organization calls "an almost unheard-of feat."

Oceanside resident Shawn Goldsmith earned his final badge — for bugling — in time for his 18th birthday in November. He far surpassed the 21 badges required to achieve the elite rank of Eagle Scout.

He says he took about five years to earn his first 62 badges and then nearly doubled that number in a matter of months. He did it with the encouragement of his grandmother, who died shortly before he reached his goal.

The Binghamton University freshman was awarded his final badges on Dec. 19. He says he hopes to become a businessman and politician.

---While I'm not encouraging everyone to follow his example, it just goes to show that impossible is nothing if you put your will to it. Don't worry about having too small a sleeve to patch your badges!
